This sub Basin is characterized by a high folding resulting in wide synclines and narrow anticlines formed by thrust faulting associated to the deformation front of the Eastern Cordillera.

The petroleum system for the area is composed of shales from the Guaduas Formation acting as a seal, sandstones from the Monserrate Formation and limestones from the Villeta Formation acting as the reservoirs, and organic rich shales from the Villeta Formation as the source rocks.
